History of Video Games is back – with a brand new summer edition that we are calling Volume 2!

After a fantastic run over the Easter Holidays at Edinburgh’s Ocean Terminal Shopping Centre, we are back by popular demand!

History of Video Games Volume 2 is 3 times the size of our Easter event, we have more room, for more games and more cool things, all the information is below.

History of Video Games is a unique hands-on video games experience that is aimed at families and video games fans to come together and play classic vintage retro arcade machines from over 30 years ago right through to the present day, alongside a curated history of home video game consoles, taking in the 8 bit Sega Master Systems, the Nintendo Entertainment system through to the 16bit Megadrive and SNES through to the 32bit revolution of Playstation, Game Cube, Sega Saturn and much much more.

You pay to get in and all the games are free to play! So book your session today!

We have more space! Which means have organised the event as follows…

Arcade Zone

In this zone we step back in time, back over 30 years ago to the earliest arcade machines, all ready and set to free play so you can play as much as you like – From Space Invaders, through to Donkey Kong, through to 90s classics like Out Run and After Burner – this zone will take you back in time and set you up ready for..

8 bit Zone

The Nintendo Entertainment System, complete with Zapper Gun for some Duck Hunt fun, or how about playing Super Mario Brothers 3 on the original console, or maybe you were a Sega fan, don’t worry we have the Master System and so much more!

16 bit Zone

The early 90s saw the console wars between Sega and Nintendo hot up – with Sega having titles like Sonic, Streets of Rage 2 and Ecco the Dolphin sitting alongside Street Fighter 2, Mario Kart and Donkey Kong Country – are you a Sega kid or a Nintendo kid!?

32bit and more Zone

Along Came the Playstation, along came Lara Croft and along came the Nintendo 64, with Mario Kart and Zelda and many more classics. In this zone, we explore the early next generation consoles which include the Sega Saturn and the Nintendo Game Cube with a whole host of games to play.Future ZoneWith the next generation consoles of Sony Playstation 4 and Xbox one, alongside the Nintendo Switch once again changing the Video Games Market, what are these immersive next generation games like – we will have new release games and exclusive events for you to play all summer!

We have made a very special 20-minute History of Video Games film, to take you across the video game timeline, the top 50 video game moments, as chosen by us! If you need to chill out, we have the Handheld zone, sit back and relax and play our Game Boys, Game Gear and Atari Lynx’s + more

£10 per adult per session and £6 Children under 14

Family Tickets for 4 persons (Any Combination) are just £29

We run two sessions a day 12-3pm and 3pm-6pm 7 days a week (times subject to change, view full opening times)

FAQ

Is the event suitable for wheelchairs?

Yes, the event is fully wheelchair accessible

What age range is this event best suited for?

We say 7-year-olds up ideally, but the home video games can be played by everyone, and so it’s at the Parent or Guardians discretion.

Can I eat or drink in the venue?

Sorry no, you can’t, unless it’s a private party.

Can I come and go during the session?

Yes, of course, pop in and pop out, go for lunch and come back etc.

Can I drop my kids off and go shopping?

Again this is at your own discretion, only children 12+ can be left unsupervised.
